Dumb bitch, they have to learn sooner or later.
^ This.

Labor also seems to be in a good position right now. Even though the Liberal Party does have 40%-ish preference in the opinion polls, very few people respect Abbott. I know I dislike how he bases a lot of his policies around his religious and moral views rather than overall thoughts of the public (which, mind you, got over a bunch of these thoughts once we went through the 60's). I mean, how can even justify basing your policies like that when controlling a democratic community?

On the other hand, Turnbull wasn't too bad when he was the Liberal Party leader. I would have been more likely to vote for him.

Also, I highly doubt the Greens will win, though they do seem to have a pretty big following this election. I've never seen them with this much support before. Though for me, voting for them is more of a vote to try and persuade Labor back to the Left-Wing, because they've been edging to the right over the past few years.

Unfortunately, even though Labor won our electoral seat last election, there are a lot of avid Liberal supporters (*glares at Hannah*) here. (That's what you get for having an electorate with a Bogan-suburb like mine and richy-wichy-suburb like Hannah's... not to say I'm a Bogan or that Hannah is a richy-wichy... O.o) I'm a little unsure about how things will go down this year.

As for the Senate, I just want some diversity in the Senate so that we get, well, diversity in the country. The big Governments seem to treat the whole thing like a business and it's just been bugging me a whole lot. Plus censorship and the 'think of the children' (but not the adults?) crap that the big parties pull is more annoying than ever. I mean, with the big parties we can either go with fast Internet that is slowed down by a filter, or our current obsolete Internet without a filter, not to mention we still don't have an adults-only rating for video games.

It's ridiculous.

Oh, and the worst part about this entire political campaign? 90% of it is stating why I "shouldn't" vote for the other major party, rather than why I "should" vote for their own party. So how about this, I'll listen to both of the major parties and not vote for either of them.

So shove that in your pipe and smoke it.

RE: Australian Election 2010
Just to keep you folks updated, it's looking like this could be our first hung Government since World War II. If this occurs, both party leaders will try and get the minor parties to side with them to make a minority Government. If it is still hung after that, it's back to the polls.

Apparently this election had the biggest margin of 'donkey' and informal votes ever made. I guess that says a fair bit about the parties, eh?

But anyway, on a bright note, the Greens got their first ever lower house seat! Where? Melbourne! This is did not expect, but am still pretty happy for. My electorate, however, got a Liberal seat (bah), but it was a close result. Apparently Greens got about 14% of the vote here, which is a pretty substantial amount. Heck, I was just at a friend's birthday party and asked a bunch of people who they voted for. Results? 2 Liberal, 3 Labor, 1 Family First, rest Greens.

On another note, just before when both leaders gave a speech, Gillard was acknowledging that the Liberals had been a formidable opponent and basically tried to stay very down to Earth. Abbott, on the other hand, still continued to demean the Labor party and Gillard when he did his speech, acting very arrogant and cocky (like he had already won the election), which I found pretty rude. It's makes me sick that people actually vote for people like that. :/

I honestly was predicting that Tony Abbott will get the government, but that's just a gut feeling that a lot of people didn't like how Gilliard became Prime Minister. Oh well, it's good to see the Greens win one. We have never had a Green Party win a seat here, but someone from our Liberal Party (yeah, they're more like the Liberal Democrats in the UK rather than the Australian Liberals) defected to the Greens but never got to sit down cause they called an election.

To be fair, I don't blame you for not voting for the Coalition considering the leader was cocky and stuff, but what can you do? I personally don't mind conservatism, but I don't think he'll ever be as arrogant as guys like Ann Coulter, Glenn Beck, or Larry Kudlow. Personally, those three make me lean more left, which is a shame, cause I still support Harper. He actually isn't as much of a firepower as Republicans or whatnot.

RE: Australian Election 2010
Gillard was considerably more popular than Tony Abbott because Abbott tends to act very 'traditional' (religious, anti-abortion, anti-woman-have-sex-before-marriage). Of course, this made him popular with other religious folk as well. :/ If it were truly a popularity contest out of the leaders (like the American Presidential system), then Gillard would be on top, without a doubt.

But you don't vote for the party leader, you vote for your local representative of a party. :/

Well, of course. You guys are like us, using the Westminster System, aren't you (the party with the most seats in the house forms government). We have had a conservative representative since 2006. Before that we were Liberal. I lived my whole life under a Liberal government until 06.

Oh well, do you guys need to have a majority like the UK had to? Cause we've voted in three straight "hung" governments and the only thing that turned out was that party (the Liberals in 04-06, and the Conservatives in 06-08, and 08-present) gets government without a coalition.
